Objective
  • production of non-toxic (free of phenol / formaldehyde) and temperature stable binders for glass fiber mats

Methods

  • development of a sol-gel-binder-system by the controlled surface modification of nano scaled inorganic particles with a tailored structure in the nm-range

Results

  • binder with 90 wt. % inorganic parts and process properties similar to organic polymers

Applications
  • general application for thermal insulation materials
  • especially for high temperature applications

Benefits

  • non-toxic, flexible, transparent and without long-term degradation at room temperature
  • A1-classification of mineral fiber products
  • heat resistance only restricted by the thermal resistance of the fibre
  • hydrophobic effect on the fibers can be achieved by modification of the binder
  • available in the pacific trading area
