Objective
  • Preparation of bioactive controlled resorbable Hydroxylapatite (HAP) layers

Method

  • Dip coating of inlay materials with nanodispersed sol with nonstoiciometric HAP (Ca5(PO4)3OH) and densification at T<600°C

Results

  • bioactive HAP layers
  • layer thickness between 0.5 and 5 µm
  • adhesive strength:up to 20 MPa
  • adjustable Ca/P ratio:1.59 - 1.80

Applications
  • Coating of mechanically stressed orthopedic and dental implants to improve the biocompatibility

Advantages

  • variable resorption rate
  • complete resorption
  • reduced crack formation
  • simple coating technology
  • Coating of porous metal substrates (infiltration) is possible
