Objective
- Development of remeltable sol-gel powder coatings for coating applications
Method
- Synthesis of inorganic-organic hybrid materials in the liquid phase via sol-gel process,
which result in free-flowing meltable powders after a drying and grinding step
Results
- The remarkable features of electrostatically applicable coating powders are their low
melting temperatures of approx. 85 - 100 °C and minimal melting viscosities
(1 - 15 Pa× s at T = 150 - 200 °C)
- Properties of the transparent powder coatings:
- Duroplastic after thermal densification
- Coating thickness: 25 - 40 µm
- Gloss (20°): 60 - 85 gloss units
- Pencil hardness: 2H - 5H
|
- High scratch- and abrasion resistance
- Corrosion and weathering stability
Applications
- Corrosion inhibiting coatings for:
- Automobile industry
- Architecture (e. g. facades)
- Metal furniture
- Household appliances
Advantages
- Very good adhesion on metals
- High mechanical resistance
- Reduced material consumption because of low coating thickness
