DESCRIPTION
High purity glass
scintillators prepared via sol-gel, composed by SiO2
doped with Ce3+. The high purity of these glasses
determines the good mechanical and thermal properties
and radiation hardness, like SiO2. With
these type of glasses it’s also possible to produce
optical fibers with standard method; moreover, their
composition makes them coupling with standard optical
fibers, permitting to collect and transmit the signal
directly to a “passive” fiber. The
wavelength of maximum emission is 465nm and the
refractive index 1.46. The decay time is 50ns.
The forms actually supplied are
discs (thickness=1mm; diameter=1-2cm), fibers
(diameter=100micron) and powder.
The intensity emission is larger more than three times
of BGO’s one.
So these type of Cerium
activated glass scintillators can be used as:
- ionizing radiation detectors
(alfa, beta, X, neutron);
- scintillating optical
fibers;
- phosphor powder
