DESCRIPTION
A sol gel
of a low molecular weight silane-functionalized polymer
with two metal alkoxides provides optical "hot
melt" abrasion . The inorganic components are
normally a mixture of two metal alkoxides. These
inorganic/organic hybrid materials combine the
mechanical strength and stability of inorganic materials
with the flexibility, good processibilty and
film-forming ability of organic materials . This
disclosure describes new compositions of matter
extending U.S. Patent #5,316,855.
Benefits:
A sol-gel
of a low molecular weight silane-functionalized polymer
with two metal alkoxides. These inorganic/organic hybrid
materials combine the mechanical strength and stability
of inorganic materials with the flexibility, good
processibility and film-forming ability of organic
materials. As a result, the coating compositions in this
invention show better optical "hot melt"
abrasion resistance than the current top commercial
abrasion resistant coatings.
STATUS: Under review for patent
application
