DESCRIPTION
Researchers at the University of California have developed a versatile technique
for making macroporous oxides and ceramics having ordered arrays of pores with
uniform and controllable pore size and porosity. The method combines a new means
for controlling pore characteristics with a standard sol-gel process for ceramic
formation.
Pore sizes range from 0.1 to several micrometers. Porosities in
excess of 74% can be obtained because the process minimizes cracking and
pulverization.
