Anyone ever tried using polyols for silica nanoparticle synthesis?  I have seen a few references on the idea but not much on the practice (Stober's original paper mentioned ethanol-glycol mixtures I think).  If I try nanoparticle synthesis using ethylene glycol or glycerol as a solvent for TEOS will this work well?  Any recipe modifications required?  Will this changed the morphology or other characteristics of the product?
Are there any references on this matter, I haven't been able to find anything useful to me.

Thanks,
Nuallain
