One easy way to calculate OS is using the following formula:
f= (2.3*m*c²/pi*e²*N*lamba²*l)Integrale(DO(lamda)dlamda or f=2.6E21 * ( 1/ N*l*lamda²)*Integral(DO(lamda) dlamda were : N is the number of ions per cc of solid matter Lamda is the mean wavelength of the transition and l is the length of the measured sample (you have to correct that by the porosity of your gel in order to get the right number) The integral (Integ DO(lamda)dlamda) can be easily estimated by taking the area under the absorption peak under question (background corrected)
